I started thinking about how alphabets shift from language to language, and how each one sounds. From childhood to adulthood, the alphabet is a constant part of daily life. I became intrigued by the idea of visually representing those sounds, and after a week of not being able to think about anything else, I brought the concept to life as the Alphabet of Sound.
I recorded myself sounding out each letter and translated those into sound waves. I then outlines my sound waves to create a visual symbol for each sound in the alphabet.
For clarity to the viewer, I then overlayed those waves on top on their respective letters in order to create a cohesive alphabet.
